After sharing the stage with artists such as Bunji Garlin and Assylum Band, Faye Ann Lyons, Lil Rick, Kerwin Dubois, just to name a few, also performing at Toronto Caribana’s Fire Fete as well as Germany & Sweden Carnival, being awarded the Soca Music Awards (SMA) best UK soca artist and producing the best UK soca track, what’s left for a UK based soca artist to do?

Well having a massive year so far, Scrappy is continuing to exceed borders by getting more in depth in the music arena. The soca artist has now completed his first Montserrat carnival compilation album under his production company Johnson Music productions featuring a league of artists ranging from Montserrat, Trinidad and the UK. The album has a mixture of gospel, soca and reggae music and is the 1^st of an annual project aimed at getting the best of Montserrat’s carnival music exposed to the world. The album titled “Welcome To Montserrat Vol 1 & 2” consists of a mixture of reggae and soca music all released for the Montserrat carnival season. The album boasts of songs from some of Montserrat’s best soca artists including the legendary road march master himself, Drago with his new release for the season. Scrappy is also releasing his new long awaited album “The Caribbean Dream”. There are times in life when we face unfortunate realities. The gift of life is precious and should be cherished. Lately the Montserrat community has lost one of it's own, and as we hurt and be strong all at the same time we still keep on keeping on. Collin Willock aka "Tallman" was one of the many personalities that you would have cherished and respected. Soca Music Awards Double

The Soca Music Awards for 2009 was a very good year for Scrappy. The artist collected 2 awards at the ceremony (The Best UK Soca Artist and Best UK Soca Song "jouvert mornin'") Scrappy who has now completed his fourth studio album titled "The Caribbean Dream" which is due for release in December is now focusing on the season in his home island Montserrat. The island's carnival will be a special one for him as his two year break is now over and he is planning to entertain his fans to his maximum potential. Award Show Nominations

Finally soca has began to be looked at in the UK as a music and as a culture. Two of the most prestige shows are now in the warm up stages "The Soca Music Awards" and "The Calabash Awards". Both shows are aiming at giving soca artists in the UK the recognition they much we deserve. The vibe is this, last year Scrappy was nominated in each show for an award. This year between both shows Scrappy is nominated for four awards.

Souljah

Souljah is the debut solo album from upcoming soca artist Scrappy. The album is a pacey uptempo album in which Scrappy shows potential to become a recognized soca artist in the soca music arena. “I called it souljah because to me the name has a strong meaning. I have been a fighter all my life & with the grace of the almighty I have learnt to conquer obstacles fight battles & win wars.” Scrappy proudly represents the island of Montserrat & will be endeavoring to pioneer the soca music arena. Dreams Are Reality

Well the man is back with the second solo soca album as he promised us in December 2005! Scrappy has officially released tracks from his second solo album titled “Dreams Are Reality”. The album is a follow up of “Soul-Jah”—the debut solo album with the track that opened up doors for him in the Soca music arena “Always Home”.

“I called the album ‘Dreams Are Reality’ because the meaning is true and simple. It was always my dream to become a soca artist and release albums under my own production label. I single-handedly built Danger 1 Productions© (a music production company) and I am determined to take it to levels where it is acknowledged for good Soca music.”

So far the album has had two releases one being a slow zouk style song titled “Love Me” and the other a hot, up-tempo track “Carnival S.O.S”. Both are storming radio stations through-out the region & worldwide and are demanding attention. Let us get into the elements of these two tracks. “Love Me” is a classic boy meets girl Caribbean style love story about a man meeting a woman in a fete and telling her, after just one dance, that he wants her love and the rest, and I do mean all the rest. This track is one that when you hear the intro, just hold the woman next to you.

“Carnival S.O.S” is the pacey, heated, up-tempo, energetic follow up track right after carnival in Montserrat when the question was asked, “Where is Scrappy now?” The track is basically saying that if you want Scrappy, he’s in carnival where ever it may be from Jamaica to Trinidad & U.S.A to Australia. Once it’s carnival you’ll find him. The album is scheduled for release on December 18th 2006 in Montserrat. So look out for the new album from Scrappy, “Dreams Are Reality”. Soca music has just been shifted into a gear now called “hyper-soca-matic”. This is all due to Montserrat soca artist Scrappy. Scrappy has for the third year managed to give the soca arena a next reason to keep their ears open and give space to this young vibrant soca act. Scrappy’s summer release “Start To Bounce” produced by fellow Montserratian producer/artist “SocaChild” has been the heat and energy of one of the world’s most diverse and multicultural carnivals, London’s Nottinghill Carnival. Also look out for the smooth silky groovy soca track title “Be Mine” also produced by “SocaChild” and the club banger “Take This Wine” featuring Blee. Scrappy has now finished recording a new EP titled “The Caribbean Dream” which is scheduled for availability in digital download format in January 2009. Scrappy’s passion for music is astounding, particularly his love for Soca. It is this same passion that is his driving force for working towards goals and reaching milestones in his life including the release of three successful and promising solo Soca albums, another one in the making, a solely founded production label, the title of “Montserrat Soca Monarch 2005-2006” while simultaneously raising the caliber and standard of the Soca Monarch competition there.

The question remains, “What started this passion and inspired this dream?” Being born to a Montserratian mother who has a rich musical family background, and a Trinidadian father would help to explain this. At age 5, Scrappy began exploring his musical talent by always singing along with his mother, as she listened to her favorite artists ranging from Bob Marley, to Peter Tosh to Gregory Isaac. In addition, it was around this tender age that his mother bought him a toy piano. While meddling around with it, Scrappy taught himself to play—he is a self-taught pianist. On his father’s side, he listened to a different flavour of music from artists such as Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, and The Mighty Sparrow. All of these artists have influenced his musical style. This was the dream in the making. Growing up, there were several musical competitions that Scrappy participated in. His first exposure to the Montserrat public as a musician was when he entered the local show, Star Search, and later the Jr. Calypso Competition. Entering the Jr. Calypso Competition had proven successful, as Scrappy in his very first year managed to come out victorious through a very tough and highly aggressive competition. He then became a household name in the tiny island of Montserrat, and competed again the following year to defend his title against a much stronger and higher level of talent. He managed to do the double, and recaptured the crown, and thus remaining the Juniour Calypso Monarch that second year. The dream was still in the making.

After migrating to the island of Antigua, Scrappy’s musical talent was even more enhanced. He occasionally tapped into music, and would ever so often meet up with upcoming artists and have lyrical battles with various musically styled artists. This exercised his talent and enabled him to become a more versatile artist in the world of music. The magnitude of his dreams was fully realized after relocating to the United Kingdom. Scrappy studied music at Rising Tide in East London, where he nurtured his production skills as an artist. One day he came across an artist who had a home studio and who created all of his musical instruments digitally. Scrappy was determined to learn how to do this, and his determination was not in vain.

This was simply another goal met. Scrappy writes his own songs, sings them, does the back up, creates the instruments and beats digitally, performs—he is indeed a well rounded artist. In addition to the musical side of his dream, Scrappy also manages the business side. He solely founded, owns, and runs a production label, called Danger 1 Productions©. Currently Danger 1 Productions© focuses on music and entertainment.

In December 2005, the artist released his first solo Soca album, “Soul-Jah”. The album includes the smashing hit “Always Home”, which won him the title of “Montserrat Soca Monarch 2005-2006” on entering the competition for the first time. In July 2006, Scrappy represented Montserrat in the OECS Regional Soca Monarch hosted in St. Lucia. The exposure, experience and knowledge gained during that competition are priceless, and will be incorporated in his musical career.
